Mosaic glass bowl fragment

Roman

Not on view

Rim fragment.

Translucent pale and honey brown, cobalt blue, opaque white, and colorless.

Outsplayed rim; convex curving side, bulging outward and then turned in towards bottom.

Spiral mosaic pattern formed from sections of a single cane in a brown ground with two irregular threads: one in white, partially mixed with brown and appearing yellow or with a colorless central stripe, and the other in white and blue threads in fine parallel lines.

Polished exterior; rim and most of edges ground flat; pitting of surface bubbles on exterior; dulling and patches of creamy iridescent weathering on interior.
