Innovations in electronics technology have had a profound effect on music, from recording and broadcasting to the amplification of instruments and the electrical generation of sound. Electric stringed instruments and amplifiers were developed in the 1920s and 1930s. Today, nearly every type of instrument and most musical cultures have been affected by amplification and the electrification of sound.
