Achille-Jacques-Jean-Marie Devéria French

Not on view

Achille Devéria’s work as a portraitist is best known through his lithographs. This sophisticated early portrayal of the Romantic poet and novelist Alfred de Vigny subtly combines a variety of black media with red chalk. The technique used to create tone in the face through a network of wispy strokes is highly distinctive.
