Not on view

For the spring/summer 1996 "trompe l'oeil" (optical illusion) collection, Martin Margiela invited photographer friends to make black and white photographs of vintage garments, in this case an overcoat in Shetland wool, and used these images as prints for lightweight summer garments such as this synthetic long jacket. Combined with a V-neck top with a print of a knitted jumper, this striking piece combines the lightness of the synthetic fabric with the "found" visual motif of a heavy woolen overcoat.
