Clayton is a Pittsburgh-based interdisciplinary artist whose work engages with everyday situations, extending the familiar into the realms of the poetic and the absurd. In 2012 she began an ongoing series of drawings made with a portable 1957 Smith-Corona Skyriter typewriter. She created this drawing of the Moon over the course of several months, plotting the design and then repeatedly folding and re-inserting the paper onto the typewriter's roller. The result is both machine-made and painstakingly hand-crafted. Her source material for this drawing was a photograph of the Moon made on Christmas Day in 2015 by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. The image holds personal significant for the artist as it was the first full Moon on Christmas since 1977, the year of her birth.
