Worn by Madonna at the "Fire and Ice Ball" honoring Donatella Versace in Los Angeles in December 1998, the zipper-gyration evening gown promises net transparency and/or the unraveled revelation of the body. Most importantly, Donatella Versace has taken one of her brother's signatures--the dress with see-through plastic or plastic seams--and expanded it into a more extravagant creation of her own. The second Versace designer is now in command of the signature and is taking it in her own design direction. Gianni Versace was a generous donor to The Costume Institute; his sister now continues that tradition.
