Headpiece
Outrageously royal, this headpiece by Scottish designer Pam Hogg evokes the extravagant eighteenth-century headdresses worn by Marie-Antoinette at Versailles, and links them to the peacockery and playful dress-up of London's "New Romantics" subculture of the late 1970s - early 1980s. The towering accumulation of tulle acts as a material embodiment of Susan Sontag's phrase "Camp is the Spirit of Extravagance" from her 1964 essay "Notes on Camp." Hogg, known for her provocative designs inspired by DIY culture and the queer underground, designed and lovingly made this object by hand.
