Antiquities of Xuanhe Hall Illustrated (Xuanhe bogutu)
LCB.028a–r
Xuanhe bogutu is a catalogue of the twelfth-century imperial collection of ancient bronzes first published around 1120. It records 839 bronzes, each accompanied by a line drawing of the object, an ink rubbing of any inscription, and a detailed description and commentary. This Ming dynasty edition, published in 1588, demonstrates the ongoing influence of this compendium’s illustrations as a source of inspiration for creating archaistic bronzes.
