Heath created a memorable group of satires in 1828–29 that responded to women's fashion. This example shows a young woman wearing a full-skirted dress whose hem is elevated to reveal small feet clad in flat slippers secured with ribbons. The fabric is a lively diamond pattern of gray bands against a yellow ground, enhanced with small flowers, and the dress has a ruched bodice and large puffed sleeves that accentuate a tiny waist. The ensemble is completed by a pink hat with an extended brim decorated with brown bows and wide danging ribbons. Heath often added commentary by incorporating quotes from into his titles, here adapting lines from Shakespeare's "Comedy of Errors."
