Renowned as a calligrapher, ceramist, and restaurateur, Rosanjin established a kiln after 1923 to produce pottery for his restaurant; his ceramics come to life when food is served on them. Rosanjin avoided incorporating Western ideas and preferred to revive the styles of the ancient kilns. In this set of hand-built plates, he emulated the style of Ogata Kenzan (1663–1743) and later Rinpa artists, modernizing elements and further stylizing patterns.
