Pouch
This pouch depicting the sun belongs to a pair called the Sun Moon Embroidered Dharani Pouches. The sun—a red circle with a bird—is at the center of the lotus blossom, and the oval shape bordered with lotuses is inspired by stone lotus lanterns. Sutra verses could be inserted in the middle. A woman holding a stem emerges from the blossom, referring to the lotus as a site of rebirth into the paradise of Pure Land Buddhism. The inscription indicates that it was made for a Lady Kim as a wish for her reincarnation in paradise.
