Frank Milton Armington Canadian

Not on view

Born in Toronto, Frank Armington moved to Paris in 1905 to study at the Académie Julian, accompanied by his wife and artistic partner Caroline. They both learned to etch in 1908, with Frank often adding dramatic touches of drypoint to his compositions. This study of a male model demonstrates his interest in the figure as well as landscapes (Caroline focused exclusively on views). Seeking new material, the couple traveled throughout Europe, to North Africa and North America and enjoyed successful careers. As war approached in 1939, they left Paris for New York.
