Marie-Louise Marsy

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec French

Not on view

Marie-Louise Marsy (1866-1942) performed at the Comédie Française in the 1890s. Although this bust-length portrait gives no indication of setting, the dramatic lighting cast on her face from below suggest that she stands in the footlights on stage. This lithograph was one of a series featuring actors and actresses originally commissioned by the London publisher W. H. B. Sands in 1898, but eventually published later in France.
