New Bowery Theatre
This print of a large building topped with two flags probably represents the Atlantic Garden, a theater complex that stood next to the Bowery Theater in lower Manhattan. William Kramer established this new complex in 1858 to attract German immigrants, combining a beer garden with a music hall that presented "Variety" acts–then a novel form of entertainment–and popular music.
