Baskets

Photographer Harry Burton British

Not on view

Featured here are a common round basket and an unusual bottle-shaped container from Tutankhamun's tomb. Given that it is woven, the bottle was not meant to hold liquids. Two other bottle-shaped baskets from the pharaoh's tomb contained grapes. The designs on the sides of this one might represent grapes between the Y-shaped supports of a vineyard.
