Ashikaga Takauji at the Battle of Hyōgo

Ashikaga Takauji (1305–1358) was the first shogun of the Ashikaga regime, which ruled Japan for more than two centuries after overthrowing the emperor in 1336. That summer, Takauji and his supporters fought against troops allied with Emperor Go-Daigo (1288–1339) near the modern city of Kobe.
