Untitled (Toll Taker, GW Bridge, Fort Lee, New Jersey)
Treer’s street photographs of the 1950s and 1960s are lyrical, moody, and atmospheric, similar in style to the work of other New York School photographers, such as Bruce Davidson, Louis Faurer, and Lisette Model. This photograph of a stern-looking toll booth attendant at the New Jersey entrance to the George Washington Bridge was made as part of an assignment related to a federal project on New York’s roads and highways.
