The Cart of Death
Francisco Dosamantes, Mexican Mexican
Not on view
Dosamantes was director at the Joaquín Clausell Painting Workshop in Campeche—a port city on the Gulf of Mexico. The striking image of a skeleton driving a cart at a furious pace serenaded by animal musicians was designed for a poster announcing an exhibition at the workshop of thirty-four linocuts from Estampas de la revolución mexicana (Prints of the Mexican Revolution). The portfolio ended up comprising eighty-five prints and was published in 1947 by the Taller de Gráfica Popular in Mexico City.
