Krönung des Chic

1998
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 852
Bassman’s reinterpreted prints found an enthusiastic art-world audience, and fashion jobs followed. Hired by Vogue Germany for a feature on millinery, she here reaffirmed her gift for photographing avant-garde headgear. Even in the more permissive culture of contemporary publishing, her curiously accessorized cigarette-smoking nude constitutes a return to form.
