The 2013 Family Benefit: Heroes and Heroines at the Metropolitan

Young heroes and heroines stopped for a snack and a picture at this year's Family Benefit.

«On Monday, February 4, the Met hosted its twenty-first annual Family Benefit for families with kids of all ages. This year's theme, heroes and heroines, was a huge hit with parents and children alike.

The party started in the Great Hall, where families enjoyed savory and sweet treats and little ones danced to the music of Brooklyn-based education rock band The Deedle Deedle Dees. Upstairs on the Great Hall Balcony, the Museum's Education staff led children (and adults!) in various art projects and interactive activities, including stations where they could create their own heroic personas by designing helmets, crowns, wrist cuffs, pendants, and standards. Guests could also create comic books to tell the story of their new heroic alter egos.

Throughout the evening, attendees were invited to visit six different heroes and heroines in the Museum's exceptional collections such as Joan of Arc, King David, and Herakles. At each work of art, guests could collect a special hero trading card to take home at the end of the event.
