Apollonio Massa, Doctor of Medicine
This bust may be compared with two other busts of Apollonio Massa by Vittoria. One, a marble formerly in the cloister of the Church of San Domenico, Venice, was probably set up during Apollonio's lifetime, in 1572 (the date on the bust's inscription). The second bust, a terracotta, originally in the Church of the Convertite, Giudecca, once bore an inscription with the date of 1587. The terracotta, however, which closely resembles 61.239, may in fact be earlier in date than the marble.
