Mary, Queen of Scots arrested by the Earl of Bothwell

This is a book illustration showing the Queen's abduction by the Earl of Bothwell in 1567, outside Stirling Castle. Anticipating her movements, Bothwell waylaid her with a troop of 800 horsemen and obliged her to accompany him to Dunbar, where they were subsequently married. A later version of this print (with a different frame) was used in The Imperial History of England (Theophilus Camden, 1811).
