Glass mosaic bowl fragment

late 1st century BCE–early 1st century CE
Not on view
Fragment or rim, side, and bottom of shallow bowl.

Translucent blue appearing mostly green, purple streaks appearing brown, opaque yellow, white, and bright red.

Vertical, rounded rim; vertical side, turned in sharply to flat bottom.

Short-strip mosaic pattern formed from short rectangular lengths of several composite canes largely set at right angles to one another: canes in various striped patterns including mixtures of blue and white, blue and yellow, and purple and white. An uneven blue network cane wound spirally with multiple fine white threads is attached as a rim.

Exterior ground and polished, with some pitting of surface bubbles; dulling and creamy weathering on interior and jagged edges.
