Storage Bag for a Gun
The firearms used in North Africa––the old Barbary Coast––were modeled on imported English and Dutch weapons furnished with snaphaunce locks, long, slender barrels, and stocks with flaring butts. The Department of Arms and Armor has a number of eighteenth and nineteenth century Moroccan guns of this type, many of them richly embellished with silver ornament. Specially made storage bags of colorful woven wool, such as this example, protected the gun and its delicate decoration from the elements of weather and other potential physical damage.
