Join experts for lively 30-minute dialogues on works of art on view in the galleries. In this talk, learn about the life and work of Lebanese American poet and painter Etel Adnan (1925–2021). A polyglot who could switch between Greek, Turkish, Arabic, French, and English, Adnan’s practice connected script, recitation, form, and color. Her decades-long relationship with sculptor Simone Fattal (b. 1942) also offers younger generations of artists in the Middle East a crucial touchstone, with one critic writing after her passing, “Adnan made it seem possible to name your own family and draw your own lineage.” Presented in celebration of LGBTQIA+ Pride Month.
