Ewer
In 1882 the English historian Alfred Maskell traveled through Europe to catalogue "the best of human kind in precious metal work." The original of this ewer and basin, acquired by the Museum in 2005. On Maskell's recommendation electrotypes were made in England, of which the Museum acquired a whole set including the ewer and basin.
This electrotype is after a seventeenth-century original in the Hermitage, St. Petersburg, at the time of reproduction. The original ewer and basin are also in the Museum's collection (see 2005.62.1, .2a, b).
