Avalokiteshvara Eau-Lune

Sur cette peinture en rouleau, le bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara connu sous le nom d’Eau-Lune (Chouei-yue Kouan-yin), paré d’atours resplendissants, est assis sur un rocher qui affleure au-dessus des vagues. On observe les attributs habituels de la divinité, soit une petite représentation du bouddha Amitabha sur le diadème ainsi que le responsable des aspersions rituelles tenant une branche de saule. Tout en haut, une lune minuscule dans laquelle un lièvre fait pénétrer l’élixir d’immortalité. Au pied de la divinité, un cortège de personnages miniatures en tenue élégante suit le roi dragon. En bas à droite, on distingue Sudhana (Seonjae dongja), le garçon pèlerin, dont la rencontre avec Avalokiteshvara est relatée dans le soutra Avatamsaka (préceptes d’ornementation florale).
