The ninth scene from this elaborate handscroll depicts the entrance to an entertainment house (ageya) and an ōyose banquet. The lavish drinking party is hosted by affluent patrons of the Yoshiwara. Elite gatherings such as this one featured multicourse traditional meals, performances by entertainers, appearances by high-ranking courtesans, and abundant sake. Here, delicacies are arranged in ceramic vessels, lacquer bowls, and large porcelain dishes for sharing.
