蓋付ゴブレット

ジョン・フレデリック・アメルングはドイツからメリーランド州ニュー・ブレーメンに移住し、ガラス工房を開いて成功しました。蓋付のこのゴブレットは、その形からドイツ系の職人によって制作されたことが分かります。 最大の特徴であるバロック様式の盾の中に描かれたドイツ、ブレーメン市の緻密な紋章は、この工房の最も複雑なエングレービングの典型であり、当時のアメリカ製ガラス製品と肩を並べる精巧な装飾です。このゴブレットがドイツで見つかったことが、「古きブレーメンの成功と新たな発展」の銘文に光明を投じます。アメルングはおそらく彼のアメリカ事業の成功を祝ってドイツの投資家にこの品を献納したものと考えられています。
