青年貴族の像
この等身大の像は、ローマ時代にギリシャの商業と文化の中心地として栄えたロードス島で発掘されたものです。幅広の顔と短い髪がアウグストゥス朝の若い皇子を思わせますが、ロードス島の支配者階級の子息、または同地に駐在した著名なローマ人の役人の息子だった可能性があります。ローマの伝統的なトーガの代わりに、ギリシャのヒマティオン(外衣)を着ているところは、島内の哲学・弁論の有名校に通っていたことを示唆しています。
