アルテミス神殿の柱(サルディス)

ここに見られる柱の部分はイオニア式の縦溝彫りの柱の一部であり、元はアルテミス神殿に立ち、高さが17.7m以上ありました。手のこんだ葉形飾りのある柱頭はこの神殿のものとして現存する柱頭のなかでも特異なもので、トールス(台座の一部)のウロコのような植物模様も、極めて精巧な造りを呈しています。神殿で発掘された他の柱頭よりも若干小型なことから、この柱は外側の柱廊のものではなかったことが分かります。アルテミス神殿では、類似する二対の柱が東側と西側の玄関を支えていましたが、これらはおそらくそのいずれか、もしくは両方のものと思われます。
