この作品は、キクラデス諸島の初期青銅時代に作られた、音楽奏者を表した数少ない作例のなかでも最も古いものに数えられます。このようなハープ奏者は、おそらく文字の使用以前の地域社会において、民族の歴史、神話、音楽などを記録・伝承する人物として重要な存在だったと思われます。彼らは、「オデッセイ」などのホメロスの叙事詩や続く古代ギリシャの豊かな口承詩の伝統で取り上げられた、勇ましいミュケナイ文明における専門的音楽奏者の前身と考えることができます。
