ハイチェスト
最上部に曲線の装飾ある台座付きの箪笥は、ハイチェスト(背の高い整理箪笥)とも呼ばれ、イギリス式の平らな台座付き箪笥とブロークン・ペディメントとを組み合わせた箪笥です。アメリカ植民地時代の最も意欲的で独創的な家具でした。1730年頃にボストンでこの形態の家具が考案された当初の高価な作品には、東洋の漆を模倣した仕上げが施されました。この作品は、めずらしく揃いの化粧台と鏡が現存しています。全体を亀甲模様で覆い、その上から風変わりな人物や庭園の建物などのシノワズリ(中国風)のモチーフを金箔で選り出しています。マサチューセッツ州セイラムのベンジ ャミン・ピックマンのために制作されたこの作品は、植民地時代のニューイングランドの国際性と洗練性を表す典型的な作品です。
