ウエストミンスター宮殿

アンドレ・ドランは画商のアンブローズ・ヴォラールの薦めで1905年から1906年にかけてロンドンへ旅し、ヴォラールのために、この作品をはじめロンドンの街並みを描いた作品を数点制作しました。ドランが後に回想したように、これらの絵はそのわずか数年前にクロード・モネによる「パリで大注目された」ロンドンを描いた作品に影響を受けていました。ドランの作品の長く途切れた筆使いと明るく大胆な色彩は、新印象派のポール・シニャックや、アンリ=エドモン・クロス、さらにドランがフランス南部で1905年の夏を一緒に過ごしたマティスの影響を映しています。
