聖ヨハネの黙示録への注釈
福者の彩飾写本は、中世スペイン特有のものであり、この地方の修道院の美術における知性の高さと芸術性を物語っています。この作品は、8世紀のアストゥリアス地方の福者リエバナの解釈による、聖ヨハネの黙示録に記された世界の終末が鮮明に描かれています。この頁の挿絵には、第五の天使のラッパに続いて起こった世にも恐ろしい出来事が描かれています。地上の穴からの煙が太陽を黒く染め、縞模様のイナゴの大群がサソリのような尾で人々に襲いかかり、死に切れなかった者たちが慈悲を請うというものです。この頁は1870年代に切り離された写本の1枚です。
