舟の模型
アメンエムハト1世の治世初期に作られたこの古代の模型は、ナイル川を櫂で漕いで下る川船を表しています。帆走ができたのは、季節の北風に押されて川を上る時だけでした。川下では、模型では失われた帆柱が檣座から取り外さ れ、白いクロッチ(櫂の支柱)に横たえられました。ただ一本ある長い舵櫂は操舵手が操り、船首ではもうひとりの男が絶え間なく変わるナイル川の深さを測ろうとしています。盲目のハープ奏者と歌い手を前にして座るアメンエムハトの管財長メケトラーの前に船長が立っています。
