ツタンカーメンを表したこの頭部の後ろにアムン神の手が残ることから、元々の数対の彫像からなる作品において、アムン神の座像 の前に小さなファラオ像が立っていたと考えられています。ツタンカーメンの治世前の エジプトでは、太陽神アテンを唯一神とし て崇めたアクエンアテン王の支配下において宗教騒動が巻き起こっていました。この彫像に見られるように、ツタンカーメンは伝統 的な多神教と、アムン神の主権を復活させま した。
