Three-drawer miniature chest in book form, decorated in art nouveau style with, PR monogram
This chest of drawers in the form of a rounded-spine fine binding is constructed out of maple with glued joinery. Judging by the interior, the outside of the box and drawers were first stained in an undetermined color; or only the frames around the decorated fields are stained, with the backgrounds left plain. There is a color difference between frame and field. The painting is green and red (or brown) on all sides with floral motifs, probably honeysuckle. The monogram is placed within a shield-like cartouche on the front only. The top and bottom edges of the book are painted gold. The concave drawer fronts open from the foredge of the book. Each drawer front is decorated with a honeysuckle motif and has a turned wood pull. -- description by Mindell Dubansky in consultation with Marijn Manuels
