완전히 새것 같은 상태로 보존되었으며 이제까지 미국에서 제작된 검 중 가장 훌륭하고 독창적인 검으로 손꼽히는 이 작품은1846–48년간 있었던 멕시코 전쟁의 부에나 스타전투에서 울 장군이 보여준 용맹함을 기리기 위해 1854년 1월 23일, 미국 의회가 수여한 검입니다. 유럽 또는 고대를 모델로 삼았던 기존의 미국 검과는 달리 울의 검은 그 콘셉트와 도상학적인 면에서 미국 특유의 느낌을 확연히 보여주고 있습니다. 미국 독립혁명에서 뛰어난 성과를 보여준 군인에게 수여한 검입니다.
