Alphonse Mucha was at the forefront of the Art Nouveau movement at the turn of the twentieth century. This drawing was likely a study for an advertisement, book cover, poster, or another work of graphic design as indicated by the area left vacant between the two figures, which would have contained text in the final version. The study showcases Mucha's skill at rendering figures with hyper-realist precision.
