Toast rack

Designer Christopher Dresser British, Scottish
Manufactory Hukin & Heath British
1879
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 516
Although this sophisticated toast rack has not been traced to a particular design by Dresser, it is typical of the simplistic yet inventive racks produced for him by the firm Hukin and Heath. Founded in 1855, this Birmingham-based silversmith and electroplating manufactory hired Dresser as an art advisor around 1878.
