Metropolitan Museum of Art to Donate 9/11 Admissions to Neighborhood Firehouse Family Fund

(New York, September 6, 2002)—The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that it will donate all of the admissions revenues it receives at the main building and The Cloisters on Wednesday, September 11, to the Engine 22 and Ladder 13 Family Fund—a charity established by the neighborhood firehouse that lost nine men at the World Trade Center one year ago.

The Museum's Sherman Fairchild Conservation Center recently restored the two fragile chalkboards—officially known as "riding boards"—that still bear the names of the firemen who signed out of the firehouse as they were dispatched to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The restored, preserved, and newly framed riding boards will be on view to the public in the Museum's Charles Engelhard Court, on the first floor of The American Wing, from September 10 through September 15, before being returned permanently to the East 85th Street firehouse later this month.
