You're Invited to Teens Take the Met!

«Have you ever wondered what happens in the Met at night? How about if the Museum were filled with nearly three thousand teens? What if these teens were dancing to a DJ while creating cool stuff, writing poetry, learning about hip-hop, making their own digital beats, and printing their own zines? To be part of it, Teens Take the Met on Friday, October 16, is a total must!»

Next Friday, over forty New York City cultural and community organizations' activity stations will be sprawled across the Museum, and teens ages 13 to 18 are invited to experience each station. From ancient Egyptian to American art, the Met is completely ours to explore! You can make new friends, eat zesty snacks, and create neat things to bring home, like hand-designed tote bags, record covers, and Morse code bracelets. Whether you come with a group of friends or alone, you are sure to meet interesting, new people in a relaxed, fun atmosphere as you travel to and from activities in the Museum.

Although hosted in an art museum, Teens Take the Met is not just for the artistically inclined. In addition to art making, the activity stations include spoken word, theater, music, dance, and "living sculpture" performances, and you'll get the chance to learn about dragons, yoga, and more. This event has something for everyone! The range of possibilities brings together a diverse group of teens who share an interest in fascinating things.

This Teens Take the Met will be my first, and I can't wait! All of my friends who went to last June's Teens Take the Met made me jealous by telling me their amazing stories that were filled with the most unexpected anecdotes. The photos they shared from the event can be found on Instagram.
