Gayle Perkins Atkins Elected a Trustee at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Gayle Perkins Atkins has been elected to the Board of Trustees of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, representing the borough of Manhattan, it was announced today by James R. Houghton, the Museum's Chairman. The election took place at the January 8 meeting of the Board of Trustees.

"The Metropolitan Museum of Art is pleased to welcome Gayle Perkins Atkins to its Board of Trustees" commented Mr. Houghton. He added, "Her professional background in broadcast journalism, media management, and politics at the national and state level, combined with her service on the boards of arts and educational organizations in New York as well as in Washington, D.C., will certainly bring an important dimension to the Met."

Ms. Atkins currently serves on the boards of directors of the Visiting Nurse Service of New York as well as the Visiting Nurse Service of New York Hospice, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Center for Social Inclusion, which is part of the Tides Center. She is also a member of the American Friends of the Royal Academy Trust.

Her previous board service includes the Smithsonian Archives of American Art, George Mason University, The Washington Ballet, The Juilliard School Council, Kennedy Center National Council, the national board of Reading is Fundamental, and the Virginia Executive Mansion.

A native of Richmond, Virginia, Ms. Atkins graduated from The American University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Following her graduation from Columbia, she was a fellow in media management at The Poynter Institute for Media Studies and then continued her post-graduate work in international public policy at The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

She resides in Manhattan with her husband, Charles N. Atkins, a lawyer and investment banker.
