Grill

17th century
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 535
The Severe, or Philip II, style is reflected in the design of this grille, which relies on the repetition of spindles of highly sophisticated proportions for its decorative effect. The gold leaf was applied in a thin layer, leaving visible the texture of the wrought iron.
