Box in book form with drawer, Album

1903
Not on view
This soft pine box was constructed using small flat-head nails and was made to resemble a photograph album. The spine, cover and outer edges are painted cordovan with black book edges, and the bottom surface left mostly unpainted. Both covers have wide beveled edges, with the front showing an incised suggestion of a panel-style binding with the word Album in Gothic-style lettering inscribed within a cartouche. A drawer with a pull resembling a book clasp, opens from the foredge. The spine is undecorated.-- description by Mindell Dubansky in consultation with Marijn Manuels
