Minaudière
On loan to The Met
This work of art is currently on loan to the museum. One side of the interior of this rare minaudière is a mirror with an ivory backing that hides a compartment for cigarettes. An adjoining compartment holds a moonstone-capped gold pencil. On the leaf opposite the cigarette compartment, the case is divided into two sections: the larger, fitted with a marabou puff, is for face powder, and the smaller is for rouge. This minaudière was regularly used by Matilda Geddings Gray.
