Minaudière

1908–17
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 555
On loan to The Met
This work of art is currently on loan to the museum.
One side of the interior of this rare minaudière is a mirror with an ivory backing that hides a compartment for cigarettes. An adjoining compartment holds a moonstone-capped gold pencil. On the leaf opposite the cigarette compartment, the case is divided into two sections: the larger, fitted with a marabou puff, is for face powder, and the smaller is for rouge. This minaudière was regularly used by Matilda Geddings Gray.
