Durante la década de 1920, el gobierno mexicano dedicó una cantidad considerable de recursos a introducir la formación artística en los colegios con el objeto de fomentar la conciencia nacional. En 1929, Fernández Ledesma —el artista responsable de este cartel— fue enviado a España para exhibir las creaciones de algunos de los alumnos. El texto que rodea a la imagen hace referencia a la «gran revolución» y al arte que esta produjo, una equivalencia que se refleja en la combinación de escenas de combates militares y práctica artística. El poema que aparece debajo de la imagen subraya que la expresión artística es un grito de libertad fuera de las restricciones académicas.
