This work and Children Playing with Fruit (1970.8.2) were two of four groups representing the Elements or the Seasons. They were commissioned by King Carlo Emanuele III of Savoy and were arranged around a fountain in the gardens of the royal palace in Turin, from which they were removed in the nineteenth century.
