菲利皮诺·利皮是佛罗伦萨画派中最有天赋也最有成就的画家之一，他先是师从自己的父亲——弗拉·菲利波·利皮，后来又进入了波提切利的画室，因此他的风格受到了这两位大师的启发。画面中透过左边凉廊看到的风景以及蜡烛在墙上投下阴影的静物描绘风格，都揭示出他所受到的佛兰德斯画派的影响。明亮的色彩，尤其是圣母那以昂贵的群青色绘制的蓝色披风，可能是根据赞助人菲利浦·斯特罗兹的要求画的。
